Before our children were born, they had a special conversation with God. They asked Him to give them parents that would care for them, help them with their special needs and most of all love them more than anything else. With that we were chosen as parents to these beautiful children. And for that we are honored and forever grateful.
Thank you Emma & Harrison for choosing us.

She did it!

Four years ago today our little peanut went under the knife and received her first cochlear implant. It was a horrible day for a parent to endure, knowing the severity of what your child is undergoing , yet a wonderful day as well, knowing that she would soon have the gift of hearing. And little did we know, she would accomplish all that she has in the past four years. I find it very fitting that on her four year anniversary, we met with her elementary school to discuss what she would need for next year, to find out that she has successfully completed mainstream kindergarten with normal hearing peers and will be moving on to first grade next year. And not only did she complete kindergarten successfully, but she fell into the upper percentile in test scores in her class! Amazing..simply Amazing!

  3. So Amazing! Our journey has just begun and reading your blog gives me so much hope for our son. I see that you are in the Plano area, we currently live in Addison but are planning a move to Plano in the near future, so if you have any advice/experiences about the schooling/programs that are available for deaf children I would love to hear it. Thanks again!

  5. Hi, I just found your blog off another and am glad I did! I got tears reading this as I've been emotional lately thinking back to a year ago just starting our journey. It's so nice to read stories like this! Also, I loved your post about incidental learning ... people don't understand how we have to teach every.little.thing to our children - even things we think to be so simple - like grass. Great post!
We moved in October from Keller, TX to Maryland. Dr. Bauer would have implanted our son if we wouldn't have moved. We saw Becky Clem, an AVT from Cook Childrens, and Sarah's counterpart! We knew we wanted either her or Sarah from the get go. I wish we were still there to go to SW School! So nice to "meet" you. Your family is precious!

PS - There is a mom who just contacted me from The Colony and I'm going to give her your blog address. Her daughter has AN and is on the path of CIs by Dr. Bauer as well. She's reaching out for support and local contacts. I'd love to send her your way! I believe they're going (or going to start) the SW school too.
